Reader comment on item: "A Shot at Peace"

Dr. Pipes, what an amazingly excellent article! You are right on target that the short-term goal is ending the terrorism and the long term goal is Palestinian acceptance of Israel as a sovereign Jewish state. Unless our Adminitration and our State Department firmly adhere to President Bush's vision he outlined in his June 24, 2002 speech, the Palestinians will yet again miss an opportunity for a lasting peace. As you previously pointed out, "as long as the Palesitinians want to detroy Israel more than to have their own state, there cannot be peace." The only "shot" for peace is for President Bush to stay as strong in directing our government's actions against all terrorism, as he is in his convictions! Otherwise, Israel must be allowed to pursue whatever means necessary to defend her people from terrorism, hopefully with the full blessings of the USA. Sadly, perhaps that's the best hope for a lasting peace.
