Allam is 100% Muslim

Reader comment on item: Is Tariq Ramadan Lying [about Magdi Allam]?

Submitted by Domenico Gatti (United States), Mar 5, 2007 at 16:32

Dear Dr. Pipes,

Of course Magdi Allam is Muslim. Anybody who has read his books and his articles for La Repubblica, before he became vice-director of Il Corriere della Sera, knows that very well.

As it turns out I had my own disagreement with Dr. Allam a few years ago, because for a short time I thought he was disguising radical islamic views under a patina of moderation. However, over the years I have come to recognize him as a true moderate Muslim and a riformist.

The radical islamists in Italy have repeatedly tried to discredit Allam accusing him of being an apostate Copt, which, as you correctly mention, is equivalent to a death sentence. We should all support Magdi and condemn the lies of the islamists like Ramadan.

Best, Domenico Gatti
