Reader comment on item: [Brandeis University President Jehuda] Reinharz, Israel and Me

Submitted by David Goshen (Israel), Feb 15, 2007 at 02:27

It is sad that President Reinharz & other university heads do not encourage fierce debate on subjects considered inflammatory for fear that those who are not able to debate academically with a cool clear head will revert to violence, which is the customary way to settle arguments in some communities. In the long run this practice will no doubt facilitate stifling debate on uncumfortable subjects.

I would be interested to know how Finkelstein regards the Marshall Plan which USA so generously provided to Europe. does he consider this as blackmail? After all, who rewards a nation who brought such havoc on mankind & for the second time.

Finally Finkelstein possibly does not know that some of the reparations went to slave labourers, & can only presume that none of his family even distant ones were liquidated or exploited in the Holocaust.
