The crypto-authoritarians

Reader comment on item: [Brandeis University President Jehuda] Reinharz, Israel and Me

Submitted by Dan Friedman (United States), Feb 14, 2007 at 13:14

We have here the perfect example of the crypto-authoritarian nature of the so-called liberal academy. Or to put it another way, the search for knowledge has given way to keep 'em dumb at all costs. In fact, Brandeis should engrave that in stone above the main entrance - in Latin.

I'm curious about this Brandeis place anyway. Just who of note have they produced in the last 20 years, in or out of Jewish life? Social workers don't count.

Besides any school that turned out a Thomas Friedman can't be taken seriously in the first place. And why would any school be proud of an oymoronic marketing position like, "The only nonsectarian Jewish-sponsored college or university in the United States." Anyway, I agree with the ZOA. If an Israel-bashing Baptist is welcome and you're not, the "Jewish-sponsored" part has to go.
