Perhaps More Serious Than I'd Thought

Reader comment on item: Al-Qaeda Invites Me to Join Its Ranks

Submitted by linda (United States), Sep 10, 2006 at 00:33

After viewing CNN's special on Bin Laden, I remembered that this invitation to join Islam is a veiled threat -- that either you take them up on the offer to join -- or else.

So maybe my joking about this stupid looking guy was wrong, that it's more serious than I'd thought. The idiotic finger pointing, obviously copying his Islamist idol, is so, so dumb. But the naming could be more serious. It's easy to laugh at them. Yes, they're pathetic. We send missions into space and they're lost in the miserable medieval past. We try to help children and they vow to kill a million of them.

But we should be concerned about those fighting them, the heroes of our generation. I showed my kids "United 93" tonight. I could be criticized for this. But they need to know. It's my responsibility to make sure they grow up prepared, as opposed to the head in the sand approach from nearly everywhere else, such as schools. But I must admit, the media has been somewhat responsible this week. Refreshing.

Hope those named in this "invitation" to evil -- are protecting themselves.
