Reader comment on item: [West Africa:] New Route to the West

*****Europeans, Americans, and others worry about their economic standards*******

We have been getting conflicting views on this. On one side it is argued that immigration, legal or not legal, boost the economy. Former mayor Rudolf Giuliani is a shining example of one who campaigns for immigrants, pointing out that New York City has benefited strongly, that slums turn into livable places by the grocery stores and so on... that our econonmy has improved because of this. I remember him being very outspoken on this, going all around the country preaching the virtues of immigration. Same with former Mayor Ed Koch.

On the other side we have those who say immigration, legal or not legal, strains our economy.
