Woke Bigotry

Reader comment on item: Israel Is the Least-Stolen Land

The woke trend mentioned here is an attempt to go beyond appreciation of native culture and rights and is part of a disturbing contemporary double standard. This involves a knee-jerk tendency to assign victimhood status to any group deemed non-white, to demonize any group deemed "white", and to obsessively focus only on conflicts between "whites" and non-whites to illustrate the point.
Recently we saw this when there were riots and religiously-motivated hate attacks against Jews by Muslims in Israel during Ramadan. Around 20 Jews were murdered. Then, during a firefight between the IDF and armed rioters, Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abdu Akleh was tragically killed. The mainstream media and the UN immediately went into action blaming Israel despite non-cooperation by the PA in the investigation, and largely ignored the many innocent Jews murdered in the previous hate attacks. This fits the woke pattern: despite the absurd racial inaccuracy and despite the evidence, Jews are considered "whites" and will be therefore be blamed.
Along the same lines, intra-racial crimes in places like Chicago and Africa, where hundreds of blacks have been murdered by black criminals or Islamists, tend to be downplayed or ignored in favor of such hate crimes as the Buffalo massacre, where the perp was white and victims black. To be fair, all those cases should be highlighted, but only boutique websites like this one and jihadwatch do so.
This is a kind of inverted racism, where white supremacy has been transformed into white guilt and inferiority. The dishonesty is evident in how "white" is defined. Now, Israeli Jews are considered "white" and automatically guilty, whereas years ago they were considered non-white and automatically guilty by the Nazis. It's the same old bigotry, more appealingly packaged, but featuring the same bogeyman.
It's excellent that you've made this important point about the peaceful, transactional nature of Israel's founding, but it will probably be a vain effort in changing sleepy woke minds.
