Reinterpreting the Koran

Dear Dr. Pipes,
You say "The Koran itself cannot be changed but its interpretation can be."
It is up to you to show how the clear jihadist and hateful verses of the Koran can be reinterpreted so that they don't mean what they so clearly appear to mean. And then it is up to you to convince the Islamic religious authorities to accept your new peaceful interpretation and reject the past 1400 years of Islamic religious scholarship.

For example, how do you reinterpret 98:6 in which Allah says that non-Moslems are subhuman ("the worst of created beings", "the lowest of animals", etc)?

How would yopu reinterpret 9:26 in which Allah commands Moslems to make war on the Jews and Christians and subjugate them to Islamic law?

How would you reinterpret 4:34 in which Allah prohibits gender equality by commanding women to obey their men, and commands men to beat them if they persist in disobedience?

How would you reinterpret 5:82 in which Allah declares that the Jews are the Moslems' worst enemies?

And there are many more hateful, violent verses which would need to be reinterpreted in a way that is convincing to the Islamic religious authorities.

And we have not even begun to talk about the hadiths!

So, good luck to you with your reinterpretation of the Koran's hateful jihadist verses!

In the meantime, we non-Moslems need to defend ourselves against the Islamic threat which is based on the Koran as it has been interpreted for the past 1400 years -- and preached in all the mosques!
