A perfect example of "lawfare"

Reader comment on item: Enforce Islamic Law in Canada?

Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Sep 27, 2005 at 14:01

As Dr. Pipes points out, in this case the Islamists have manipulated the Canadian legal system in a backhanded way, that is, if they can't use their system, then all things being equal as they must be in a modern Western democracy, then no other religions can use theirs either.
The Islamist use of existing laws and mores in Western democracies to demoralize, weaken, and finally wreck, those democracies is a perfect example of legal warfare, or as some wits call it, lawfare. This is hardly surprising given that many other small extremist groups have discovered that it is possible for them to inflict their radical beliefs on, or better yet, deny the rights of, a largely secular and laissez faire public by using the courts or administrators to issue decrees rather than going through the time consuming and messy give and take of the legislative process.
