What resources does Afghanistan have?

Reader comment on item: Do Moderate Muslims Exist?

We've poured a king's ransom into Afghanistan, but I'm not aware of that rathole being especially resource rich, or otherwise beneficial in any significant way. Actually, I tend to think that it's been a huge waste of our own resources and that an explicitly announced intent on our part to take control of natural resources would somewhat compensate for all the squandering of our money and lives. I also find it cruelly ironic that our largely Christian military are being sacrificed in a country which ranks at the very top, along with North Korea, for persecution of Christians, according to Open Doors.
Accusations that we just want resources are just another example of Marxist cant from the hate-America Left, but that's just academic chic.
