Hi Michael,

You are very correct. Echad means (number) One

>"[4] Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:"

>The Hebrew original is "echad"; and it is indeed a number:

In the Peshitta (Syriac Bible) as well as the Sahidic Coptic Bible it is indeed a number and it is one in both languages, Syriac and Coptic

Here is Mark 12:29 in the Peshitta

ܡܪܚܐ ܚܕ ܗܘ

Or: Maraya Khad Hu or Our Lord is One He (this is the emphatic Syriac He. Compare with the Qur'an below)

And it is a number

Here is a link to the verse in the Peshitta

And here is the Christian Arabic translation of the same verse:

الرب الهنا رب واحد

Or Our Lord our God is Wahid (or One and it is a number)

I'm unable to find an online Coptic Bible. However, I have a paper copy of J Warren Wells' Sahidic Coptic New Testament and the word is OYA (Or Oua. Sorry I have to use Roman alphabet because my Coptic Keyboard is not working) and this word according to Crump Coptic dictionary 469a means One (number one)

Even Muhammad in Q112:1 says in the Qur'an هو الله احد Or He Allah is Ahad (the word read by al-Tabari as One) BTW: This is clearly from the Syriac Peshitta because this is Syriac and not Arabic grammar!
