Is Jesus God? or are they two different characters? What does Vital tell us?

Reader comment on item: Conservatism's Hidden History

Hi, Robert.

"Now if you don't know who my favorite philosophers are, can you possibly know what the Bible says."

Huh??? You should be a pope, or at least a bishop, to come to a conclusion like that! Amazing! I usually read the Bible, to find out what the Bible says; but I have met few people in my life, who seem to think that is logical. Now you are offering me the key: Read Schoepenaur, and you will know what the Bible says! Why didn't I ever think of that?

I wish I could discuss at length with you, what the Bible actually says; but I see you have just said what you have, as sort of a rhetorical introduction. Still, please indulge me just a little. I have had a running argument/ war going on with enlightened, Bible-college-trained geniuses, concerning the nature of Jesus. I see a scripture, for instance, like,

Heb.1
[1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
[2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son...

In my complete peasant ignorance, I have always thought that two entities are spoken of here:
1. God, who is elsewhere referred to as "The Father", and
2. Jesus, aka God's "Son"
I find it hard to believe that a man, such as Jesus, can be his own father; yet the great, illustrious ones of my religion insist that Jesus IS God. To me, that is truly amazing and, well, incomprehensible!

One more:
John.17
[1] These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

Again, in my ignorance, I read into this that Jesus is one person, a human, who prays to another person, his "Father", who is elsewhere described as "God". Again, the "illuminated" ones in the church have explained to me that Jesus IS God -- which to my befuddled, simple mind, means he was praying to himself.

Can Schoepenaur explain this to me? I am at a complete loss! There are many other scriptures like this. Now, on to what you really seem to be interested in, namely, "Conservatives" vs. "Liberals": You said,

1. "A Conservative is a Crypt (sic)-Fascist"

That seems plain enough for me: I am a Crypto Fascist, something which fits in well with what Hillary said, namely, that I am a "Deplorable", what Joe Biden said (that I am "viral"), and what Obama said -- that I cling to my Bibles and guns (of course, I have never owned a gun; but why should that stand in the way of such flawless logic)?

2. "...imagine if you will the homosexual who won't come out of the closet."

OK. I'm imagining. Tell me, is he a conservative homosexual? If he were, I would imagine that he is also a deplorable, viral crypto-Fascist, hiding out in there with a Bible and several guns. On the other hand, perhaps he is a liberal, in which case I have no idea what he is doing there.

3. "Therefore, a Liberal is someone who at least doesn't believe that a Homosexual (or an Adulteress) should be Stoned to death, according to your misreading of the Bible."

Robert, believe it or not, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I have never stoned a homosexual, nor did I sexually assault Dr. Ford nor gang-rape any women at parties. You may have me confused with someone else. As for what the Bible says about homosexuality, I see:

Lev. 18:
[22] Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

That's what it says. I won't read it; or let Vidal read it, or William F. Buckley. Then have them tell me what it says. Here's another one:

Lev. 20:
[13] If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Again, I won't read it -- I'm too deplorable and ignorant, to do such a thing. If you wish, you can read it (perhaps in a work by Kant) and tell me what it says. Here's another:

I don't remember saying anywhere, that someone should get stoned for this or other offenses, except for the general admonition,

"Everybody must get stoned!" (from a Bob Dylan song).

So, Robert, what's your point, other than assuring me that I am somehow a Crypto-Fascist. Are you saying that Conservatives are closet homosexuals, and Liberals are non-closet homosexuals? Is that what you learned from Vidal and the others? Did they read it in the Bible? You have correctly said that I am a conservative; and I don't know why, but I get the feeling that you are not. Is that how we should define the two? That conservatives are like me, and Liberals are like you?

That's a tough one; and frankly, I will sleep well, if I never learn the right answer; but I wish you would give a stab at telling me if Jesus is God, or if the two are actually two different characters. What does Vidal say the Bible says?
