Reader comment on item: NYT: Richard Pipes, Historian of Russia and Reagan Aide, Dies at 94

Submitted by Maria Meylikhova (United States), May 18, 2018 at 12:07

Dear Mr. Pipes,
As a young refugee from the USSR in 1979 I went to your father's lectures on Russian and Soviet history at Harvard where I was admitted as a special student.
Before that, in Moscow, as a student of economic history & history of economic thought at MGU Dept of Economics I learned that he was indeed hated by the Soviet historians and through his lectures and writings I understood why: they hated to be told the truth about the tyranny which they helped maintain in their country, to have their lies unmasked...
His writing was as brilliant as his lectures. He hated tyranny in all forms.
May his memory be for a blessing and may your family find comfort among the mourners of Zion.
