Why ISIS Will Stick Around

Reader comment on item: ISIS is Collapsing

Submitted by Dave (United States), Apr 22, 2016 at 11:17

The reasons given here are very true, but ISIS is a religious organization with a coherent ideology that strikes a chord with many Muslims. It may cause tremendous suffering, even among its adherents, but religious enthusiasts tend to have a masochistic streak which they defiantly call martyrdom.
The main reason for the ISIS setbacks lately have been due to the ferocious military campaigns waged against it, but there are plenty more jihadis ready to fill the ranks after the dust clears and the bodies are buried.

In any case, even if every ISIS member were to be killed, and every inch of ISIS territory overrun, and even if ISIS as an organization did collapse, rest assured that there will be another hydra head ready to grow back and snarl at the world. It will just be new poison in the same old bottle.

I hope I'm wrong.
