Reader comment on item: MEF's Surprising Straw Poll on Trump

Submitted by doug schulek-miller (Canada), Apr 10, 2016 at 17:08

There is one dramatic development in this election circus that we've not seen before: seriously intense reverse marketing. That means that the "usual suspects" are tending to drive the mass of people to the Trump camp by virtue of their loud and vociferous condemnation of him and his stated policies. And since these "usual suspects" are almost universally distrusted by much of the common electorate, the basic American voter is flocking to Trump, so far. What a curious tactic, no? The use of this practice tends to bring the question why they are driving people to the Trump camp? These are Trump's stated enemies and opposition factors.

Normally, in order to deep six a candidate, the media ignores them. The GOP would never openly announce their opposition in terms toward helping an "opposition" candidate, but carry on privately to derail his candidacy. So, what is this? Why is it in the open and why so obvious?

This entire macabre circus leads me to think that the election is decided and the poor American schlumps are going to be saddled with the Queen of the Night... a candidate so thoroughly owned and known by the Establishment. How so? Well, if the GOP actually nominates The Donald, it will be interesting as to what develops, but I think he is in there just for the entertainment value, as much a paid contestant as any other in the ring, paid in the same way that Ross Perot was paid to stand against George Bush and Mrs. Dole's husband; and in the same way Teddy was paid to stand against Taft.

I can easily be thoroughly wrong... but something smells to high heaven and in the number of alternative realities coming out of the current situation none of them stand to benefit the American public.
