A great awakening

Reader comment on item: The Snipers: Crazy or Jihadis?

As long as individual groups of humans stereotype other groups of humans there will be no peace on Earth. As long as sacred religious texts are believed to be absolute and accepted literally, as opposed to metaphorically, men will kill each other.

The unfortunate fact is that killing has proved to be a disturbingly effective solution to an array of adaptive problems in the unforgiving evolutionary games of survival and reproductive competition. The logic of evolutionary struggle is all about reproductive competition. Those strategies that lead to greater reproductive success are selected for, over eons of evolution, and have come to characterize our murderous species.

Until mankind faces the fact, as a whole, that we are all born killers the killing will continue.

Awaken, you who have your heads buried in the sand! Understand civilization is based on cooperation not on military superiority. Renounce imperialism and murder! Embrace those whose vision of a better world does not require an endless flow of blood!
