Jihad only means holy war - nothing else.

Reader comment on item: Jihad through History

Jihad in Islam has always meant only one thing and that is war against non-muslims with the objective of converting or subjugating them. All this talk of jihad having a meaning of inner struggle to improve themselves is pure hogwash propogated by muslims as well as by apologists for Islam. If it were really true that jihad means struggle for self improvement, this world would not have seen centuries of killing of non-muslims by them.

Mr. Cook's prediction that excessive form of jihad being practiced today could some how lead to its "decisive rejection" by a majority of muslims is only a dream which will never happen in real life. For it will be like rejecting teachings of Quran which no muslim can do. We have seen this violent jihad being practiced by muslims throughout their 1400 years of history. When was the last time we saw it being rejected by a majority of muslims? I rest my case.
