Now democracy has three enemies

Now democracy has three enemies: fascists, communists, and Islamists.

As a commoner, now I become not understand the meaning of "the popular will" and "democracy". If in a country, they do election democratically, and the popular and the winner is the Islamist one, can't the process be called democratic? Is there any thing that missing from my sight, so that we couldn't value what happen in Egypt as democratic process?

Please, your explanation, Mr. Pipes. Thank you.
