Reader comment on item: Obama's Anti-Zionism

Dr Pipes, your post seems to suggest that the pre-requiste for high office in the US (Secretaries of State and Defense, and CIA head) should be to be pro-Israel. If this is true, doesn't this support the anti-semitic conspiracy theory that Israel controls and dictates US policy?

Based on this report: http://www.njdc.org/blog/post/israelaid021412 , Obama could be considered the most Zionist President. He requested a record $3.1 billion in military aid for Israel for fiscal year 2013. Whatever gift was given to Morsi cannot erode Israel's military balance of power in the region.

It was also Obama's US that fully supported Israel at the UN against the unilateral Palestinian bid for recognition. Even the UK refused to veto and abstained, if my memory is correct.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Given that Americans favor Israel over the Palestinians by about 6-to-1, it's no conspiracy that their elected officials normally reflect this view.
