Why no reward offer from NJ Mosque for info leading to the murderers?

Reader comment on item: Denying [Islamist] Terrorism

Submitted by Al Richter (United States), Feb 9, 2005 at 18:25

If Jersey City Muslims were sincere in their disclaimers that this was a religion-inspired multiple murder, the local Imam would have publicly declared that anyone knowing the identity of the killers should notify the police, AND taken up a collection for a substantial reward leading to the killers' capture. If the killers turn out not to be Muslims, that would defuse the hostility and suspicion that Muslims did the killings. If the killers are Muslims, then at least the local mosque could credibly claim that their religious establishment condemns violence, and especially murder, and that such murderers should be brought to justice whatever their religion or motives. But don't hold your breath waiting for such a gesture.
