Reader comment on item: Denying [Islamist] Terrorism

Submitted by Howard Mednick (Canada), Feb 10, 2005 at 08:38

Daniel Pipes has a great insight into the penetration of Islamism and racism thorughout the Western world, and I always admire his commentary. However the killing of Mr. Rosenzweig, the Orthodox Jew in Toronto two and a half years ago, falls into the category of regular, but unfortunate street crime. The overtones of racism and Jew-hatred were overplayed by many in the Jewish community. The killer, who pleaded guilty to his crime a few days ago, was nothing more than a skin-head punk, with a long history of crimes and since his childhood. Maybe he did utter phrases such as "f--cking Jews" that tragic night when he was drunk, looking for drugs for sale and then stabbed Mr. Rosenzweig in the back. But to put this crime alongside the more serious crimes planned and committed by radical Islamists runs the risk of trivializing the more serious dangers that face us all. Let's understand that low-lifes such as this killer will never come to respect or like Jews. We are too far above them.
