'Love the prophet' day in Pakistan

Reader comment on item: Rampaging Islamists

Dear Dr Pipes:

After the recent movie against Muhammad, Pakistani government did the best possible thing that a reasonable government should do: they declared a 'love the prophet' holiday so (hopefully) people can sit in their homes and reflect.

But people had something else in their minds. Nineteen people were killed and hundreds injured in the process of loving the prophet. In retrospect, Pakistani government was wrong about the 'holiday' part. They should probably abolish all holidays so people can stay in their offices and jobs and stay away from trouble.
