Theatre like Cyprus

Reader comment on item: Cyprus on the World Stage

Somewhere in this discussion it should be pointed out that people are taking bets and chances during the Obama administation. That Turkey should be flexing muscles at old friend Israel, now gas rich Cyprus and one day perhaps,as threatened, Iraqs Kurdish oil fields, bodes poorly for Nato and regional peace. There seems to be no sense of "you dare not". Turkey is slowly becomming Obamas far away version of Kennedy's Cuba. Syria is taking ruthless chances, the Palestinians are taking bets in their unilateral UN bid, and so are the Iranians. The revelation of Iranian invovement in an American domestic terrorist attack calls into question their bet. Is their bet as stupid as it looks? Or are they playing Middle Eastern theatre to help a preferred sitting President catch the bad guys as Americas election season nears.? Theatre can prod bets and chances into a winning hand.
