Reader comment on item: Why Egypt Will Not Soon Become Democratic

Submitted by Barry Black (United States), Feb 4, 2011 at 20:37

Egypt has been a military dictatorship since 1952. No military government is so easily disengaged by peaceful protests. Mubarak is a military hero from the 1973 War when he commanded the Egyptian Air Force. He has the full respect of his military. He will not be so easily chased from office in spite of the USA throwing him under the bus! He has already agreed to relinquish office in September, but remember while the military will accept a new president, they will not accept civilian rule.
