Israel has already started to think for itself.

Reader comment on item: Obama and Netanyahu Meet: What's Next?

Submitted by Isaac Haskiya (Denmark), May 21, 2009 at 12:41

It is certainly obvious that Israel and the US will not agree on the main issue of a Palestinian State. It is also obvious that their agreeing on the Iran issue is still a question mark. These two being what they are today shows that the change of paradigm in Israeli politics is a fact. Israel has started to think - and act - as a sovereign state. This is what it must do even if it will cost the partial loss of US support. Obama should have expected this change in attitude. The US under this new president has shown a lot of interest in maintaining the friendship of the Arab world at the detriment of Israel. It has also manifested an interest in a dialogue with Syria and Iran. Israel must have deducted that it can only rely on itself. The question is if there will be a complete political separation. Not very probable but a partial one ....surely yes!
