Reader comment on item: Obama and Netanyahu Meet: What's Next?

Submitted by John W McGinley (United States), May 17, 2009 at 13:14

Two talented, intelligent, and self-interested political leaders. All things considered, Israel is better serviced by having Netanyahu at the helm rather than his opponents in the election (two of whom he has made part of the governing coalition). Both Obama and Netanyahu are proven "pragmatists" which means they can make deals even if it goes against previously promulgated positions. Netanyahu will hold Obama's feet to the fire concerning nukes for Iran. Obama will get, as you pointed out in your article, "lip-service" for a two state solution. Five years down the line, Iran will have been divested of its nuclear threat one way or another and the "two-state-solution" will be no closer to reality than it is right now.
