in response to reader comment: PR not totally lost on Canadians

One cannot ever be a true union leader in Canada without embracing at least the rudiments of the leftwing international perspective as goofy as it is.

To put it in its most rudimentary form, according to Socialism, basically all conflict is caused by rich successful people (aka Capitalists) exploiting poor people. The Arab Israeli dispute sort of gets cast into that mold. And therefore to be a true leftwing spirit one goes forth and expresses this sentiment.

It sounds so idiotic to informed people but to the far left, the Palestinians are, well,... workers ,and the Israelis are ..right wing capitalists. It is so bizarre but that is how these people think.

To someone like myself, these people, like the leaders of CUPE and the FTQ in Quebec seem like clueless morons. But to the unsophisticated workers these 'actions' represent a mark of true sophistication, having a strong opinion about a far off conflict in a far off place. Especially a conflict that you hear about in the news, and to have an opinion on it.
