Reader comment on item: Israel's War on Hamas: A Dozen Thoughts

Submitted by Bob Brooks (United States), Dec 30, 2008 at 16:34

I disagree slightly with Daniel about the Palestinians being better at PR. The PR is not the Palestinians but the Muslim World.
1 - About 1/3 of the Nations in the UN consider themselves Islamic States. Since they are all members of the "3rd World", it's natural for other "3rd World" members to side with them. No PR required here.

2 - Most of Europe has already fallen in line with the Muslim world. No PR is necessary in Europe.

3 - Although no one likes to talk about this, Anti-Semitism is not only strong but gaining strength all over the world. Israel couldn't win a PR war no matter how hard they tried.

4 - The United States Government, the only real ally that Israel has, is giving in to Muslim propaganda more and more each year. This has nothing to do with the Israeli/ Palestinian issue. But it has a great deal to do with our own political correctness and stupidity.

5 - US Institutions, especially media, entertainment and education, do not understand the political goals of Islam and extend religious tolerance beyond what they would do for any other religion. As a result those institutions are inclined to look more at the suffering of the Palestinians than on the injustices they commit.

So I think PR has little to do with the World's view of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

I am not Jewish. But I would be proud to be one. I think anyone should be proud to be one. Their contributions to the world in Science, Arts, Politics, Law, Education, Business, etc are unequalled in the history of nations. Their acheivements benefit every nation on earth, even Islamic Nations. Israel has nothing to be ashamed of; but much to be proud of.
