Mr. Brandstetter:

Bush is not an anti-Semite, but a wearer of our political class's outrageous blind spot re Middle East refugees. Nobody has yet done the necessary work of telling the Arab states (beyond Jordan, the PA, and, yes, Moroccan- , Iraqi-, and Yemenite-descended Israel) that it's time to naturalize the 1948 refugees and their descendants. One thing that the USA could do is to trot out its own statistics on how many descendants of an-Nakhba walk around with the blue US passport (and its concomitant property-holding, voting, and some public office-eligibility citizenship) when compared to, say, those who have Sa';udi, Kuwaiti, Syrian, Egyptian, Lybian, or Lebanese citizenship.

Further, if Lahore-born Singh and Delhi-born Musharaf can lead India and Pakistan respectively, when the heirs of Britain's subcontinental empire didn't have a penny of oil money, it is the lasting shame and disgrace of the Arab states that people of similar religion and language cannot gain a permanent home within their borders. Yes, O Houses of Sa'ud and Sabas, you are a bunch of petty-minded women. What's the cup sizes of your chief Wahabbi clerics? Oops--sorry ladies. I insulted you by lumping you with that crowd of shameless swine.
