Bush Promotes a Palestinian "Right of Return"

Reader comment on item: Bush Promotes a Palestinian "Right of Return"

Submitted by Victor Lipshutz (United States), Jan 14, 2008 at 20:35

I have several relatives who are Israelis, including a son and his family. I think I speak for them as much as for myself in commenting on this subject, if not for all of the Jews living in Israel. Here is the perfect response to those who think the Palestinians, most of whom left of their own volition, and were not forcibly expelled, have a "Right of Return".

"Right of Return" should work both ways. Thus, if a Jew wanted to live in the Palestinian State, he should have the same right as the Palestinians want granted to them. Certainly, this Right of Return would also have to include granting the Jews who left Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, France, Spain Iran, Iraq and any of the other countries from which they were ousted, the Right of Return". After all, once the Palestinians are granted the right to move back into Israel, what Jew would still want to live there, knowing what the future held?

Obviously, one can see the futility of trying to work that into the peace agreement, but it is certainly a great bargaining chip to put on the table.
