Mr Pipes should have mentioned the fact that the Europeans have had the luxury of having the US defend them since WWII, enabling them to have only a very small part of their GDP going to their military. That lets them enjoy their bloated socialist welfare economies, so they are terrified of the thought that they might have to put some money into defense - that would lead to rioting and collapse of their governments. the only reason Britain isn't quite that far along is that they had Maggie Thatcher as PM for a while....
