James, In America veils are not considerd evil as you said. But many people dont understand the lifestyle of traditional islam. As muslims from different countries come to america they should be allowed to express themselve as they do in their homelands but America is the only place were freedom of speech, life and how a person define themselves are given so why should one change?.

In islam women drees this way because the koran which comes from G-d tells women to do so . Because of man eyes and behavior towards women. Here is a poem from and for muslims women that wears veils and how they view themselves.

You look at me and call me opressed, Simple because the way im dressed.
You know me not from whats inside, You judge cruely what i wear with pride.
My body is not for eyes hold. You must speak to my mind then my female mold.
Im a indiviual, Im no mans slave, To Allah pleasure i crave.
I have a voice so i will be heared, For i my heart i carry his word.
O'ye women, wrap and cover your cloak so you wont be botherd by ignorant folk.
Man don't tell me to dress this way it the law of G-d i obey.
Opressed is something that im truly not, for liberation is what i got.
It was given to me years ago.
With the right prosper, the right to grow, I can climb mountains and across the seas,
Expand my mind in all degress, For G-d himself gave in LIB-ER-ITY
when he sent islam to you and me.
