Dear Mr. Pipes:
I was a student at Brooklyn College from 1957-1963. I found there, from many professors, a stifling atmosphere, driven by the McCarthyism of those times. However, I don't believe it was any worse than what we are now encountering on campuses. The political correct- ness that we see today brings with it an air of self righteousness, such that there is no room for any deviation from that norm.
I happened to find myself on a "liberal" campus during 1993 where I witnessed a witch hunt against an open, creative, bright young man who refused to be coopted by the conformity of the "left." I myself am a "red diaper baby," brought up on the left, and am only too aware of its tendency toward conformity. I find these times dangerous and am appalled by the defense, by feminists and "leftists," of fascist regimes who enslave women and others.
I appreciate your relentless war on evil and your constant fighting of the good fight. Vivian Flamm, East Vassalboro, ME
