Reader comment on item: Foreword: Why Islam's Reformers are Vitally Important
in response to reader comment: Muhammad was/is Islam and the Quran ... how do you erase his terrible history?

Both Muslims and Christians agree that sloppy interpretation is not acceptable. Is it going to happen and has it? Of course. The Christian Bible is replete with man's constant efforts to sidestep God's commands for living and even prophesies that it will happen, but that does not make it acceptable just because man thinks religion should be easier than it is. Our Creator throughout the Bible over and over warns man of consequences which always come.
"Acceptance" for apostasy is and always has been temporary. If acceptance were to become permanent, the associated religion would become impermanent - cease to be and die on the vine.
Catholicism sought to gut the essentials of Jesus Gospel and that institution by the 1600's brought its validity and general public acceptance to its knees. The reformers brought back scrupulous adherence to the Biblical scriptures.
As expected, the general Protestant community is itself allowing things to drift which is bringing irrelevance to Christianity, but only within that realm. There is always a remnant which provides survival. The same applies to Islam. Slop brings eventual death to the religion.
When even a few words can be changed, then the validity of the whole enchilada becomes suspect and vulnerable.
There are charlatans even within the scientific community, but that doesn't make their phony science acceptable.
