Reader comment on item: ISIS' Imminent Demise

Submitted by Elisha benAbuya (United States), Dec 8, 2015 at 12:22

Today's NYT had an interesting analysis of the Daeshi's strategic thinking. [http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/08/world/middleeast/us-strategy-seeks-to-avoid-isis-prophecy.html]. It would appear that the deliberately theatrical and provocative atrocities and terror attacks are intended to provoke a "boots on the ground" response from the Dar al-Harb; which dovetails neatly into their apocalyptic eschatology.

They desire this outcome. Believing it to be the "final" battle; from which Islam will emerge the ultimate victor.

As HL Mencken observed: "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong"

Daniel Pipes replies:

Just because ISIS relishes a ground war with the outside world does not mean we should give it one. Saddam Hussein felt the same way in 1990 and 2003. There is no question that it will lose, as he did.
