Thank you for this reasonable and informative article about an inexplicably little-known intensification of persecution of Iraqi Christians. The fact that Middle Eastern Christians are facing a diaspora similiar to the one faced by Jews (our local rabbi hails from Baghdad) is a tragedy. It is ironic that originally under the Baathists, considered by our foreign policy specialists a bulwark both against Islamic fundamentalism and Communism, Christian churches could exist and be a vibrant cultural force. A further irony is that Christians speaking something similiar to the native tongue of Jesus dwell in this area, an irony compounded by the fact that apparently many American evangelicals think that Iraq will be fertile ground for the mission field. Maybe doing mission work will be easier for American Protestants once all the original indigenous Christians have left, but somehow I don't think so.
