David wrote: "Our best hope for winning the war with radical Islam is moderate Islam. It is critical that Obama embolden those few Muslims worldwide who love freedom, peace, and democracy, .."

This is the sort of muddled thinking that predominates the discourse at all levels. There is no "moderate" Islam. There is only Islam - a set of rules set down in the Koran. Western style democracy is antithetical to the rules of Islam in the Koran, which subordinates non-Muslims.

If Muslims believe that the Koran is the word of God delivered via his Prophet, then they have to live by the Koran in its entirety . The only way to be a "moderate" Muslim "loving freedom, peace, and democracy" is by believing that the Koran is of human, not divine, origin and is therefore open to revision.
