Further on ChineseReader comment on item: India, the Most Pro-Israel Country Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Apr 30, 2009 at 10:53 I know full well that Islam does not cut ice with ordinary Chinese--they have a hard time understanding people who don't eat pork. I have lived on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and read/write/speak Putonghua and even have a little spoken Hakka. However, there is a strong dislike of the memory of Western colonialism in China, and many whom I have met (and the official media's editorials) present Israel as the creature of Western colonialism. Among Evangelical Christians I have encountered pro-Israel sentiment, but I am sure they do not constitute 50% of Mainland China's population, even if they have made some impressive gains in recent decades. Hence, I was very surprised to see that 50% of the Chinese like Israel. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
