US role in IraqReader comment on item: [Samuel Huntington and] American Purposes In Iraq Submitted by Fred Singer (United States), Apr 27, 2004 at 17:05 Daniel Pipes expresses my views very accurately. Once we have removed Saddam and his war machine as a threat to the US and US interests, I am only mildly interested in rehabilitatng and imposing our democratic values. My view is basically that the Iraqis, and mainly the Shiites and Kurds, should be grateful for what we have done for them -- but now it's up to them.I am divided in my own mind about whether we should invest in keeping Iraq as a single country or whether to let the people form three separate nations.
