Khaled and his flawed thinkingReader comment on item: Terrorism Troubles [i.e. George Galloway enthuses for Barack Obama] Submitted by Don (United States), Jul 4, 2008 at 12:21 "At least Iraq was better off then than it is now." Well, Khalid, it's about the future, as are all things done with foresight. We'll see if Iraqi children of today will be living a better life ten, twenty, thirty years from now, and if future generations of Iraqis will live better in the future than they would have under Quzay Hussein, who was even more brutal than his father. We'll see if girls yet born will grow to become whatever they dream to be, and whether they are allowed to pursue their dreams as fully human like their brothers are considered. We'll see if Iraq's neighbors, a generation or two from now, will look at Iraq (and Afganistan) and realize there is a better way to live, without sectarian strife, with full freedoms for all citizens, able to dream and hope and act on your desires and live a life you want with work and effort without the fear of being killed or kidnapped and beheaded for being of the wrong tribe or of pi**ing off the dictactor or government in charge. And do you think these things happen overnight? Do you think America didn't fight two brutal wars, suffer great losses and years of confusion and misery to reach these points? Id' argue with you that Iraq is even worse than it was when Hussein was in power - and what kind of thinking can take you down a road where you'd think Suddam Hussein would be better off in power than to make the hard sacrifice it was going to take to free Iraqis of him and his sons? Point is, the future will very likely be much better for generations of Iraqis yet born. It's about what we leave behind, Khaled. That takes hard sacrices that we'll be thanked for later.
