Although Mr. Pipes may be correct that Jews have much to fear from an ever-growing Muslim population, his choice of words could have been better. On face value the rise in Muslim American living standards and improved stature must be viewed positively: a chance for assimilation. As Mr. Pipes has said, the emergence of a moderate form of Islam is the only solution to its seeming clash with modernity. As a Jew, the political ramifications of an ever-growing Muslim voting block are frightening, but only if their core agenda is antisemetic and "Islamist. Muslim assimilation and respect for our institutions remain our best (and perhaps only) hope for this troubled population.
