The internet makes it very easy to do something about what we read in articles such as this one. Concerned readers should email Harkin and Iowa newspapers criticizing his statements. I suggest that Dr. Pipes in the future at the end of his articles has a paragraph with what we can do including email addresses. The easier it is made for the reader to do something the more likely they will do it. In fact the whole letter can be posted on a web page so that the reader simply has to put in his name and address and click on a submit button in order to send it to a congressmen. The ZOA has used this approach and the URL where they do this is: http://64.14.114.203/zoa/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=4568501
With letters to the editor this won't work as each letter has to be different but a sample letter could be posted or a suggested outline could be.
A list of Iowa newspapers can be found at: http://newslink.org/ianews.html
I suggest each reader send an email to some of them criticizing Dr. Harkin's comments.
