Remaining friends requires effortsReader comment on item: America the unpopular Submitted by Edward (Austria), Nov 6, 2003 at 14:29 As a European who is rather US- and Israel-friendly, I would nevertheless like to point out that having a good image and being popular does require serious efforts. This does not necessarily mean changing the course of policy, as some readers imply. Much could already be achieved simply by putting more effort into communicating and explaining US policy choices properly, and in other languages, especially French, German, Arabic, Farsi (Iranian), Urdu (Pakistan) etc.Propaganda is an important part of this "war on terror" (in reality it should called "the war against islamism"), and it is important for the success of the fight against militant Islam that Europe and America act together in a coordinated manner. So please, let's not do the Islamists the favour of splitting up. Europe and America together are unbeatable. Let's remember what unites us.
