Dr. Pipes,
I applaud you and thank you for your tireless fight against these evil forces that are trying to destroy America. I read your article and I am shocked that these one sided views are endorsed and preached at our country's finest learning institutions. When I attended the University, I was always taught that post secondary education was supposed to encourage free thinking and opposing views on all subject matters.
In my opinion, the only way we can change the views of these militant Muslims is to start educating the next generation that there are other, more peaceful ways to get their point of views across to the rest of the "free" world, without turning to oppression and terrorism. I mean, how can the "militant" Muslims oppress women and not even allow them to publicly display their hair and face and speak to other men in public places because it is against their religion, yet these same men are told that if they "blow" themselves up they go to heaven and are given 75 or whatever the number is of virgins by Allah.
Come on, what fairy tale world are they living in? ... The only way to change that way of thinking, is for them to become more educated about the rest of the world, a difficult task, when some of these people and countries are still living in the middle ages. Believe me, I have seen it with my own eyes serving in the US Marine Corps during Desert Storm.
Instead of preaching these one sided, anti-American point of views, these scholars should take a step back to realize that America is a great place to live and we are an excellent example to the rest of the world on how we can all live together peacefully, regardless of gender, race, religion or political views. That is what they should be educating our future leaders on, not on how to help destroy America!
Sincerely,
A very concerned veteran and a parent of future leaders!
