Scholarship?Reader comment on item: [Campus Watch and] Saving Mideast Studies Submitted by Richard Rheiner (United States), Sep 22, 2003 at 12:26 The stunning statement in the course catalogue of UC Berkeley that "conservative thinkers are encouraged to seek other sections" said it all. A true scholar would want to see and hear all arguments from all sides. It is not the function of a true scholar to mold people's minds to a particular point of view and a true scholar is not afraid to consider opposing points of view.I am afraid to ask what the condition of Jewish and Hebrew studies is on these militant Islamist campuses. Isn't there some oversight board at these universities that would deal with these inequities? It is slowly becoming apparent that even archaeologists are distorting and hiding evidence that shows Jews in a favorable light. Such is the situation in the digs under the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
