Reader comment on item: [Campus Watch and] Saving Mideast Studies

Submitted by Bernard Ross (United States), Sep 18, 2003 at 20:21

I wish to thank you for initiating a trend which might save this country from its descent into a monchromatic stupour. It appears that the politically correct left has become it's own greatest effigy. In the sixties it railed against the reactionary right wing which it claimed was institutionalised in American government and culture. Now it seems that events have gone full circle so that the left occupies the position of being the reactionary obstructionist towards change. It is the left which imposes censorshhip on ideas. It is the left which employs the "McCarthy like" tactics towards opposing ideas. It is the left which seeks to preserve the status quo, even if that status quo involves the terrorist murders of women and children. It is the left which attempts to re-arrange perceptions of reality to accomomodate the failure of their system, not unlike the pre-galilean system of astronomy.

Kudos to you for going beyond being a columnist to being an activist for change. I would like to suggest the concept of universities, and professors, being sued for their actions, and the damages caused to the individual student and to the whole class(as in class-action) of students desiring an education. Perhaps a legal fund.

Thank you
Bernard Ross
