Calling faults for what they are
Reader comment on item: [Campus Watch and] Saving Mideast Studies

Submitted by S. Silverstein MD (United States), Sep 19, 2003 at 14:06

Kudos for being direct. Too often, academic political-correctness doctrines prevent using words for which there is no polite substitute, such as "incompetent." This situation has also invaded industry, and allows incompetents to have organizational lifespans far in excess of rationality.

Professors and employees with a clear "net negative value" to creativity and progress are the result.

Scot Silverstein, MD

> "Trouble is, Middle East studies have become an intellectual Enron. Scholars of the Middle East are: Incompetent: They consistently get the basics wrong. "
