by Daniel Pipes http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2007/10/bush-returns-to-the-religion-of-peace Translations of this item: "I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace," George W. Bush told an Arabic-language television station today, recalling the "Islam is peace" phrasing he used in the aftermath of 9/11. Comments: (1) This statement comes as a keen disappointment to me, who has for years been chronicling the president's increasing realism about the nature of Islam. (2) But it does not come as a shock, for he has been steadily abandoning the more robust policies of his middle years. (3) As a reminder, "Islam Does Not Mean Peace." (4) Peace is a very slippery word. The Soviet Union wearied everyone with its emphasis on mir this and mir that. Of course, everyone wants peace - but on his own terms. In this sense, even Hitler wanted peace.
