Reader comment on item: A Madrasa Grows in Brooklyn

Submitted by Colin (United States), Apr 25, 2007 at 17:54

Dear J. K. Klein of New York City schools,

I note that New york plans to allow the opening of a specialist school that will give intensive instruction in Arabic along with multicultural education, although the sponsors specify that it will imbue students with 'Islamic culture'.

As a UK citizen, I want to draw your attention to just such a school that was opened in London not long ago. It was discovered and exposed on the BBC that the school had textbooks on the curriculum that originated from Saudi Arabia,. One of the books invited the students to discuss the proposition that Christians are monkeys and Jews are pigs. To make it clear, I'm neither Christian nor Jewish.

I predict that before long you will have the same problem - that is if you accept my view that it is a problem - in your new school in New York.

Sincerely,

Colin
