FAES makes a good point here. The UN is really stuck in a rut. NATO may be able to get around this.

Right now, these countries would be eligible for NATO membership that aren't full members.

Costa Rica
South Africa
New Zealand
South Korea
Sri Lanka

NATO has always had the ability to make decisions without getting stuck in a rut. And it is true about the demnocracies only being members - Spain is one example, Greece is another.

This is a very good idea, regardless of what people think about Aznar's past policies.

If it helps us stop a global war, then who wouldn't be for it?
